SUPERIOR - Kermit “Woody” Woodard, 74, of Superior, passed away Sunday, December. 28, 2008, at Mineral Community Hospital of a heart attack.
He was born December. 10, 1934, in Two Harbors, Minn., to Lyle and Esther Woodard. As a child, he lived with his family in Conrad. Woody graduated in the class of 1953 from Conrad High School. He entered the army and was honorably discharged in 1956.
He married Beverly Herman on June 8, 1957, in Fairfield.
Woody and Beverly traveled with bridge construction for many years. He worked for Sletten, Morgan and Oswood, McIntire and Tamiette construction companies and settled in Superior with his wife and three sons in 1972. As you travel across the state on Interstate 90, Woody’s talented construction work is a part of many of the bridges, including the one in the town of Superior which crosses the Clark Fork River. He was always willing to lend a hand to others and continued to work part time at Superior Color Center after his retirement.
Woody was a handyman in woodworking. He was responsible for donating many projects to the community of Superior, including children’s table sets for the elementary library and hundred’s of cut-out bluebirds for classroom projects.
He also built and installed the computer workstations for the high school and junior high “model” classroom computer labs. Schools throughout the state have modeled their computer labs around his exceptional craftsmanship. He has impacted the lives of computer education across the state and will be remembered for many years to come.
Woody enjoyed having coffee with his friends and traveling with his wife. His favorite trip was a cruise to the Panama Canal. Perhaps his greatest memories are the times that he spent enjoying camping and fishing with his sons and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lyle and Ester Woodard; his brothers, Jimmy and David; his sister, Nancy; and an infant son.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Woodard of Superior; sister, Beverly (Al) Anderson, Helena; sons, Rick (Deb) Woodard of Gillette, Wyo., Dick (Diane) Woodard of Superior and Mick (Chris) Woodard of Elko, Nev.; grandchildren, Julie (Jeremy) Guernsey, Nick (Jen) Woodard, Zach Woodard of Gillette, Jess (Jack) Harbison of Roy, Utah, Travis (Brandy) Woodard, Josh Woodard and Sami Woodard of Superior, Alyssa (Jake) Eisinger, Maryland Air Force Base, Setephanie Woodard of Reno, Nev., and Chad Hughes and Caylee Hughes of Elko; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
