Dr Kelvin “Kel” Snyder was born in Maryland October 16, 1952, and died in Missoula, Montana, October 18, 2024, two days after his 72nd birthday.
Kel grew up in the Pittsburgh area of Pennsylvania, the only child of Kenneth and Mildred Gartland Snyder. He graduated from Beaver High School and Vanderbilt University and then served two years in the U.S. Navy. He attended medical school at the University of Kansas and completed his residency in pediatrics at The Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. After practicing pediatrics for three years in Manhattan, Kansas, he moved to Oregon and served as a pediatrician in Astoria for 13 years, first at Columbia Physicians’ Services and then at Pacific Pediatrics, before moving to Portland. In 2000, he founded Sunset Pediatrics on Portland's west side. After 15 years with Sunset Pediatrics, he joined Providence Medical Group's pediatric practice in 2015, retiring in 2020 and moving to Montana.
Kel is survived by his wife, Dianna Schmid; his son, Dr. Kenneth Snyder, daughter-in-law Ela Snyder, grandson Nicolas, as well as son Brad, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, and nieces and nephews.
Memorial donations in Kel’s name may be contributed to the Alzheimer's Association, designated for Posterior Cortical Atrophy (PCA) research, www.alz.org, or to an organization of the donor’s choosing that supports children’s health and well-being.
