Katherine Jean Schmidt, age 86 was born in Chandler, Oklahoma, to Lorne A. F. Morris and Lillie B. Morris. She was baptized in March 1951 at the Arcadia First Baptist Church.
She married Mr. Gene L. Schmidt, August 11, 1998, and together they made their home in Dickinson, Texas.
Katherine had a deep passion for creating beautiful works through crocheting and knitting, using a variety of different yarns. Her talent was recognized with first-place ribbons at the local fair in Missoula. She also loved playing daily word games with her sister and daughter-in-law, Lisa. Katherine was a member of the Eastern Star Organization and Purple Hat Society.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law, Mr. David Dingman and her beloved husband Mr. Gene L Schmidt.
She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Ruth Dingman, Sugarland, Texas, nephew Brian (Michelle) Dingman, Bakersfield, California, her niece Lisa (Terry) Marsh, Hempstead, Texas, great- nephew, George and her beloved cousins from Alvin, Texas.
Her surviving children are John (Bonnie) Edge, Mandeville, Louisiana, Joseph Edge, Douglasville, Georgia, Rick (Lisa) Hurley, Shelby, Montana, Donna (Joseph) Terracina, Greenville, Mississippi, Brenda (Nick) Cogar, Missoula, Montana. Katherine also leaves behind 10 Grandchildren, 12 Great-Grandchildren.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to their sister Brenda for overseeing their mom's care for the last 10 years; Iris Schmitt, the nurses and physicians at St Patrick Hospital and Riverside Health Care Center for their compassionate care during the last 90 days of her life.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that the memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association.
