Juanita E. Mickelson of Missoula passed away Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, of natural causes. Juanita was born Oct. 19, 1928, to Mildred and Grover Blevins and was raised on a family farm near Chinook. After high school, she attended nursing school at Montana State University-Bozeman.
While working as an LPN, she met and married Arnold O. Mickelson in 1954. They soon had two children, and Juanita became a great mother. While raising her family, she continued nursing, and even found time to collect for numerous charities.
She also volunteered her time working to help the Disabled American Veterans. She enjoyed being a member of the VFW (Ladies Auxiliary) and held positions of chaplain and president.
Juanita truly loved Missoula. She enjoyed riding the Mountain Line. She liked to attend Missoula's Out-to- Lunch, farmers market, park concerts, parades, etc.
After 40-plus years, Juanita retired from nursing in 1991. She continued to spread goodwill and help others, especially her two grandchildren, up until her final days.
Preceding her in death were her husband Arnold; sisters Virginia, Francis, Hecky, Celia and Laroe; brothers Lawrence and Jim; and niece Carol. Survivors include sisters Louise, Lorraine and Ramona; brothers Tom and Lee; daughter Diane; son Douglas; grandchildren Christina and Jenny; numerous nephews and nieces; and four great-grandchildren.
