Joseph was born Dec. 8, 1920, in Portage Wisconsin, to Clement and Estelle Zeitz and died Sunday, June 1, 2014, in Missoula at the age of 93.
Joe served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and was reactivated for the Korean Conflict, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. He was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two Bronze Stars, American Service Medal and the Asian Pacific Theater Service Medal.
Following the war, he accepted a job at Edwards Air Force Base as an electrical technician for the Air Force. He worked there for 40 years supporting multiple flight research programs until his retirement from civil service on Jan. 2, 1987.
He was married to Cecilia D. Smith in Wisconsin in 1947 and they resided in Lancaster, where they raised their five children, Carole, John, Joanne, Susan and James. Joseph was active in the Knights of Columbus, the Elks and the Sacred Heart Parish. He was also an active supporter for the sports programs at Paraclete High School which his children attended.
He is survived by his five children, seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and his beloved dog, Buster.
A celebration of life will be held at The Springs in Missoula, his last residence of eight years, on Saturday, June 7, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. His final interment will be at a later date in the Western Montana State Veterans Cemeter
