Obituary for Joseph Herbert Hagle

Joseph Herbert Hagle, 80, of Alberton, passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2014, in Missoula.

Joe was born July 10, 1933, in Midland, Mich., to the late Seth and Elsie (Smith) Hagle. Joe met the love of his life, Dottie, in 1950, and they were married Oct. 10, 1953. Joe served his country honorably during Korea and Vietnam with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Amphibian Tractor Battalion, 1st Marine Division. He was honorably discharged in 1972, and was a member of the VFW and American Legion.

After retiring from the Marine Corps, he joined his wife, Dottie, in her garment manufacturing business in Oceanside, Calif. They successfully ran the business together until their retirement in 1988. Upon retiring they traveled the country extensively visiting friends and family. Joe and Dottie loved to fish and that love of fishing brought them to settle in Montana. Joe was a man whose word was his bond and a handshake sealed the deal. He was a true American hero to his family and friends.

Joe was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Dottie; and his three brothers, Willard, Mike and Ted. He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Greg and Tammy Hagle and Ray and Shawn Hagle; two granddaughters, Heather Hagle Leneway (husband Kevin) and Jenna Hagle; one great-grandson, Ethan Leneway; two sisters-in-law, Ruth and Joyce; and many nieces and nephews.

A military honors service will be held at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Missoula at 1 p.m. Monday, April 28.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to American Legion Post 124, P.O. Box 204, Frenchtown, MT 59834, to help build a Veterans Wall of Honor at Frenchtown Pond
