John C. Porter, 55, passed away Sunday, Aug. 17, 2014, after a courageous fight with cancer, his loving and supportive family at his side.
He was born May 25, 1959, to Gerald and Lorraine in Hamilton, later moving to Missoula with his mother and siblings. John loved to take things apart and repair them. He was an all-around fix-and-do type of person, always available to family and friends. He held several different jobs during his short life, the majority in the concrete industry.
John's dream was to have his own place with a huge shop. He got his home in Upper Miller Creek and had a 40-by-60-foot shop built (his pride and joy). John was extremely proud of his shop and always had a tour ready for anyone visiting.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nancy Ann and Curtis Ball, and John Russell and Alta Porter; his parents, Gerald Eugene Porter and Lorraine Stine; his stepfather, Bill Stine; uncle, Donald Porter; and aunts, Irene Paddock Squires, Nora (Dodie) McGee and Minnie Jewett.
John's legacy is his five wonderful children, Lynette, John, Gerald, Jory (Shaina) and Jessica; spouse, Evelyn Chavez; and grandchildren, Hope, Sophia and "sweet pickle" due in January. Survivors also include his brother, Allen (Judy) Platt; sisters, Linda (Don) Fristo and Geraldine (Gerald) Porter-Mallory; uncles, Lawrence Dean and Ronald Porter; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and godson Shea Mallory.
A memorial service will be held at high noon Saturday, Aug. 23, at 115 Horseshoe Lane, Upper Miller Creek. We ask you to bring a favorite dish and your weed eaters, to share John's dream with him.
We'll see you later, Dad.
