Obituary for John Holt Myers Jr.

– John Holt Myers Jr. died peacefully at his home in Missoula on Wednesday, June 10, 2015, following a yearlong battle with colon cancer. He was born Jan. 31 in Washington, D.C., son of John Holt Myers and Eleanor Brown Myers He attended St. Albans School and graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 1970. He received his B.A. degree from Montana State University and M.A. in English literature from the University of Montana in Missoula.

In 1985, he joined the on-air staff at Montana Public Radio in Missoula, where he will be remembered for numerous theme shows and an encyclopedic knowledge of American roots music. He also pursued a keen scholarly interest in ancient Greece and wrote extensively on symbol and myth in art and literature. Myers was a natural athlete who cherished daily swims in the rivers around Missoula. In all his enthusiasms, his greatest ambition was to share his joy and pleasure with others.

John was married to Teresa Brock on April 18, 2014, and considered their time together the happiest period of his life. He leaves behind his wife, Teresa Brock; and sisters, Julie Veazie, Eleanor Harper and Pam King. He was a loving uncle to Shelley Veazie, Laura Veazie, Jeff Veazie, Stephanie Veazie, Ryan Harper, Travis Harper, Janet King, Helen King and Nathan King. He also leaves behind grandnephews, Everett Magnus and Forrest Veazie; grandniece, Adeline Magnus; and his beloved dog, Sheba.

A celebration of John's life will be held in Missoula at a date to be announced.
