John Edson 'Jack' Middleton was born March 20, 1919, in Fulton, Illinois, and passed away Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, at the Philipsburg Nursing Home in Philipsburg. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Bearl Audrey Barnett Middleton; and his sister, Trudy. His wife, Carolyn Lee Mason-Middleton, passed away in July 2011.
Jack was an avid rockhound and made beautiful jewelry from the cabachon and faceted stones he created. He loved to ride his four-wheeler to go cut down trees to drag home and split into his firewood. For many years, he was a well (oil) driller from Louisiana to California. Carolyn and Jack came to Montana and bought an off-the-grid little cabin so they could enjoy the peacefulness of mountain living. They also did a lot of winter living in Arizona or New Mexico.
Jack leaves behind his faithful dog friend, Hope; four nephews, Bruce Moore, Fred Whitehurst, and Mike and Mac Whitehurst; niece, Vickie Hicks; four sisters, Margaret, Francis, Kay and Flora; and three stepchildren, Dennis Mason, Cheri Caldera and Chris Mason.
