Obituary for John "Bud" Galiher

John "Bud" Galiher, 92, of Missoula, left this world for a better place on Friday, June 26, 2015, at home in Missoula.

Bud was born on April 27, 1923, in Neola, Iowa, to Clair and Orpha Galiher, their third of six children. He spent most of his childhood in Portsmouth, Iowa.

On July 3, 1942, Bud married the love of his life, Lois A. Lasher. They were married for almost 64 years before she passed away in 2006.

Bud was a member of the United States Army and served our country in World War II as an intercept operator.

Bud worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for over 40 years in Iowa and Montana, before retiring as chief dispatcher.

Bud enjoyed fishing with his sons, playing golf, and traveling to Oregon, Minnesota, and Iowa to visit family.

Bud was the perfect example of what it meant to be a family man. He was exceptionally kind-hearted, always wanting to lend a helping hand whenever he could. He made anyone and everyone feel welcome and always had a smile on his face. He loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. He knew what it meant to work hard and loved to share his wisdom with family and friends.

Bud is preceded in death by his wife, Lois; grandson Ryan; sister Dorothy and brother Everett.

He is survived by his six children, Janet (Mike Miller), Dick (Karen), John Derald (SuzAnn), Gary (Nancy), Deborah (Charlie Freeman) and Bill (Patsy); three sisters, Margaret of Council Bluffs, Iowa, Lillian of Council Bluffs and Vernita of Missoula, along with 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Bud and Lois will be interred together with military honors on Thursday, July 16 at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery in Missoula, 1911 Tower Street, at 1 p.m. A reception will follow at Larchmont Golf Course.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to Disabled Veterans (dvnf.org) or Missoula Aging Services.

Cremation and Burial Society of the Rockies assisted the family with arrangements.
