John Joseph Dobie, 85 of Missoula passed away on November 3, 2013 at St.
Patrick Hospital after battling Parkinson's Disease.
He was born, the fourth of six children to John and Blanche Dobie in St.
Peter, MN on February 25, 1928. John served in the United States Army as a
Military Policeman in Japan from 1946-1947. He was honorably discharged
and moved to International Falls, MN where he married Joyce Halverson after
a 6-week courtship. They were married 59 years this October.
John and Joyce moved to Missoula in 1957 and he assisted in starting the
operations of the Horner Waldorf Frenchtown Pulp Mill, working as a
supervisor for 25 years until his retirement. Both were excited to raise
their sons John, Jeff and Jody in Montana. He was a member of St. John's
Catholic Church in Frenchtown. John enjoyed many outdoor activities that
western Montana offered, especially hunting and fishing. He had a passion
for new cars and possessed incredible mechanical skills, fixing just about
anything that needed repair, but spending time with his grandchildren was
one of the things he loved the most.
Yuma, AZ was John and Joyce's winter spot for 25 happy years. There they
enjoyed time with family and numerous friends. In later years John loved
going with his wife to local casinos where he made new friends and enjoyed
many lucky hours.
He is survived by his loving wife Joyce, sons Jeff (Alane) Dobie, Jody
(Susan) Dobie as well as granddaughters Kara and Julia Dobie, Jennifer
(Lee) Passmore, great grandson Hayden Passmore, grandson Jake Dobie,
brother Jerry Dobie (Jean) of St. Peter MN.
Preceding him in death were his parents, son John, brothers Ken, Jim and
Frank Dobie and his sister Phyllis Barber.
A service celebrating John's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday,
November 6 at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home. Pastor Chris Flohr will
officiate and a reception will follow the service. Burial will be at
Sunset Memorial Gardens at a later date.
