John S. Aitken, 65, of Missoula, passed away suddenly Sunday, Aug. 31, 2014, of natural causes.
He was born Sept. 2, 1948, in Morgantown, West Virginia, to Jack and Alma Jean Aitken.
John was proud to serve his country, first enlisting in the Marine Corps, where he served two tours of duty in Vietnam, and then in the Army. He retired in 1991 after 20 years of service, having achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3.
John was a very friendly person whose kind words and contagious laugh would often touch people's lives wherever he went. His favorite subject to talk about was his three children and how proud he was of all of them. John loved riding his Harley, rooting for his favorite sports teams, and spending time with his loved ones.
Survivors include his three sons, John David "JD" Aitken (Thuy) of North Carolina, Jack Aitken of Missoula and Joshua Aitken of Missoula; his sister, Jewel Amoruso of Pittsburgh; and niece Marissa and nephew Joey.
John was preceded in death by his brother Dave and his parents.
A funeral Mass will be held at the St. Ignatius Catholic Mission at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, followed by a gathering of friends and family.
Final resting place will be Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors at a future date.
Condolences may be left for the family at Garden City Funeral Home in Missoula. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Disabled American Veterans or Wounded Warriors Project
