Obituary for Joan Bahm

Joan Bahm 67, of Missoula, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 7, 2016, at home surrounded by her family. Joan will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She will be remembered for her love of family, her faith and her wonderful smile.

Joan was born Nov. 1, 1948, in Helena, to Gilbert and Winifred (Campbell) Walter. She was the middle of five children. As a young child her family moved to Mission Valley which is where she grew up and attended Polson High School. During her youth she loved spending time with her siblings and her many cousins who were her closest friends. She enjoyed summer days outside, horseback riding, boating, fishing and running through the fields. She also enjoyed cooking and baking with her mother, especially during the holidays.

Joan married the love of her life, Frank Bahm, in February of 1964. They moved to several locations including Alaska, but finally settled in western Montana. Joan and Frank welcomed two children, Cindy and John. Frank passed away unexpectedly in October of 1970. Joan then married Art Gilroy in May of 1972. They had one child – Misty, and later divorced in the early '90s.

Joan worked several jobs throughout the years, most recently at The Bargain Corner where she truly enjoyed her time with her co-workers, volunteers and customers.

Joan is preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert and Winifred Walter, as well as her husband Frank Bahm.

She is survived by her brothers, Fred (Sue) Walter, Arlan "Bud" Walters, Cleo Walter and her sister, Cindy (Ken) Clairmont, as well as numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

She is also survived by her children, Cindy (Auddie) Campbell of Arizona, John (Lynette) Bahm of Missoula and Misty (Marty) Brinda of Missoula; her grandchildren, Auddie (Jenny) Campbell of Florida, Amber Campbell of Arizona, and Trenton (Breanna) Bahm, Marcus (Annie) Bahm and Mishayla and Jaden Brinda, all of Missoula.

One of Joan's greatest joys in life were her grandchildren and "Her Babies" – her four great-grandchildren – Harper, Adelyn, Grey and Brayden; who she loved dearly.

At her request, there will be no funeral services. The family is planning a celebration of her life at a later date.
