Jim M. Asby, 79 of Missoula, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2024, at home surrounded by his family, after a courageous fight with cancer. 

He was born on September 22, 1944, in Hornbeck, Louisiana. As a young man Jim grew up in California, where he started a career in logging. In the early 60’s Jim met Neda Cole, they got married in 1962. They welcomed their first-born Bruce in 1963, followed by their daughter Teresa (1965) and youngest son Wayne (1972). 

In 1975 Jim and his family moved to Montana, where he started a new business, opening The Waterbed Corner, during this time Jim was awarded businessman of the year for his leadership, hard work, quality and integrity. The Waterbed corner ran successfully until 1994, when they closed their doors. In that same year Jim turned to a new business venture, starting A&A Asphalt, which started with parking lot striping and turned into an asphalt and construction company. Well known around Missoula, A & A Asphalt helped customers with their asphalt and construction needs for 26 years, when in 2020 Jim decided to retire and sell the business. Jim being the hard-working entrepreneur he was, he was always looking for his next project and great idea. In 2017 Jim started a wood production business with his daughter Teresa. Working right up until the end when he could no longer physically do the job. Jim was the hardest working man his family and friends knew, always going the extra mile to help everyone and anyone in need. 

Jim is survived by his daughter Teresa (Tim) Posio, son Wayne Asby, brother Ben Asby, sister Ellie Cole, his seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and his nieces and nephews and his lady friend that he spent the last few years of his life with Carol Serviss.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife Neda Asby of 55 years, his son Bruce Asby, his father Elmer Asby,his mother Louise Hilbun and his two sisters Fran and Melba.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
