Jean Sheppard, 81, died at home Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013. She was born July 28, 1932, in Walla Walla, Wash., the daughter of Edgar and Nellie (Mullenax) Jones. She grew up and attended schools in the Walla Walla area. She married Wilbert Hintz, and lived in Oregon, Montana, Washington and Colorado as they followed construction jobs. They operated Hintz's Lolo Conoco from 1968 to 1972. Wilbert died in 1975, and Jean married Don Sheppard in 1978. He died in 1999.
Jean became a licensed practical nurse, and before retiring she worked at St. Patrick Hospital.
Jean was an original board member for the Lolo Community Center and a member of the Lolo Community Church.
Jean enjoyed activities at the Senior Center, sewing and playing cards with friends. She was an avid Lady Griz fan and season ticket holder at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts.
Jean especially enjoyed the annual family reunions, and her yearly getaway trip with her sisters.
Besides her parents and husbands, Jean was predeceased by brothers, Warren and Doug. She is survived by brothers, John, Danny and Lester Jones; and sisters, Elsie Wells, Bea Meade, Mary Barber and Sandra Smith. She is survived by children, Greg (Pat), Willis (Susan) and Lori; grandchildren, Ian (Erin), Nathan (Michelle) and Kate; great-grandson, Gideon; plus numerous nieces and nephews and their children.
A remembrance of Jean's life will be held at the Lolo Community Church at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, with a reception to follow. Private interment at Florence-Carlton Cemetery will be scheduled at another time.
Donations in Jean's name may be made to Camp Utmost Scholarship Fund, c/o Rocky Mountain Bible Mission, 1515 Fairview Ave., Suite 200, Missoula MT 59801. Arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home.
