Jean B. Schell, 91, of Missoula, passed away on Friday, November 15, 2013 at St Patrick Hospital.
She was born June 18, 1922 in Ripley, New York to Walter and Florence Burgess. She attended Orlando Business School in Florida and began a lifelong career in the banking industry. She was a teller, general teller and an assistant branch manager at the National Bank of Detroit before retiring in the mid-1980's.
On November 27, 1942 she married the love of her life, Charles (Charlie) Schell in Ripley, New York. She stayed in New York until Charlie completed his military service in the United States Navy during World War II. They then moved to Belleville, Michigan where she lived until 2011, when she moved to Missoula. She and Charlie enjoyed traveling, in the U.S. and around the world.
Jean enjoyed reading, knitting and playing the piano. Although she lost most of her sight to macular degeneration, she continued all these hobbies with the help of her sharp memory and the Montana Talking Book Library. She was a lifelong Detroit Tigers fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Will, and her son Charles Walter.
Survivors include two daughters, Karen (Craig) Stabnau of Missoula and Barbara Schell of Missoula and one daughter-in-law, Laurie Schell, of Tecumseh, Michigan. She is also survived by her sister Laura Lick of Ripley, New York and grandchildren Eros Biox in Los Angeles; Jared (Katie) Stabnau in Kodiak, Alaska; Travis (Jessie) Stabnau of Missoula; Crystal (Josh) Parker in Adrian, Michigan; Melissa Schell in Tecumseh, Michigan and Charles Schell in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Jean is also survived by great grandchildren Logan Stabnau, Hadley Stabnau, Alaina Parker and Miranda Parker.
A celebration of Jean's life will be held in Belleville at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the Montana Talking Book Library, PO Box 201800, 1515 E. 6th Ave., Helena, MT 59620-1800, the American Macular Degeneration Foundation (www.macular.org) or the charity of the donor's choice.
She was much loved and will be missed by all those she touched.
