Jean Lien

MISSOULA - Jean Loretta Lien, 79, passed away peacefully at her home in Missoula of natural causes Sunday, January. 18, 2009.





She was born in Somers on December. 31, 1929, to Gladys Wiseman and William Grant, the youngest of nine children. She grew up throughout western Montana.





On June 26, 1948, she married the love of her life, Pete Lien, in Abasorkee. They had two children, a daughter, Carolyn, and a son, Tim. They moved to Billings and eventually settled in Missoula. In the early 1960s, she worked at Gambles in Missoula as well as several other places in town. She and Pete spent many enjoyable years with their children and other family members at the family cabin in the Swan Valley. Then she moved on to her true calling, which was caring for the children of many friends and family in her life. She also spent many years caring for her beloved parents. Some of the hobbies she enjoyed spending time on were working in the garden, crocheting, ceramics, visiting with friends and a good dance with Pete.





Jean and Pete spent 60 years of marriage enjoying life and each other, the last 40 at their family home that was so dear to them. Many stories, laughs and good food were enjoyed around their kitchen table. She also enjoyed her many pets over the years.





Jean was preceded in death by her mother and father; three brothers; five sisters; beloved daughter, Carolyn; and dear husband, Pete.





She is survived by her son, Tim; daughter-in-law, Kathy; son-in-law, Hurrell Carter; granddaughters, Jennae Carter and Heather Carter; dear friend, Sarah Michaelson; close family friends; and numerous nieces and nephews.





The family wishes to thank her special caregivers for the attention and care provided and the many hospice people who cared for her so graciously.





Cremation has taken place. At her request, a private family memorial service is being held in the near future.
