Death is not putting out the light; it is the extinguishing the lamp because the dawn has come. – Rabindranath Tagore.
On Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, a handful of days short of her 83rd birthday, Jean Davis Koich left this earth to be reunited in the loving arms of her dearest mother. "My little mummy" as Jean would always say.
Two years ago Jean was hit with one form of cancer and battled it off. Then a year later a second cancer took hold. Jean, as she did her entire life, battled bravely and courageously. In the end it was her choice to end the battle.
Jean was born Feb. 27, 1931, to Harry W. Davis and Margaret (Harkness) Davis "Mummy," in Corvallis. Jean graduated from Corvallis High School and the Business College in Missoula. Jean was a federal employee for 20 years and retired as such.
Jean loved watercolors and painted hundreds of beautiful images. She was a board member of the Montana Watercolor Society and the Helena Art Center. Jean also enjoyed exploring the world, and took several cruises during her life.
Jean loved receiving cards and photos from her great-grandchildren, great-nieces and great-nephews. When a new photo would arrive in the home it would be the topic of conversation for months. Jean proudly displayed them all.
Jean is survived by her brother, Glenn Davis (Marlene); son Wayne Seiller; grandson Jason Seiller; granddaughter Chelsea Seiller; great-grandsons, Jax, Jacob, Jordan, and several other nephews and nieces.
Jean was preceded in death by her husband Michael Koich; sister Shirley Davis Lyman; brother Don Davis; father Harry Davis and her beloved "Mummy" Margaret Davis.
The family would like to thank our good friends at HomeInstead and Hospice of Missoula for making Jean's final days peaceful. As per Jean's final wishes cremation will take place and no service will be held. Jean will be laid to rest with her beloved mummy at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Missoula. Memorials in Jean's name are suggested to the Missoula Food Bank.
Jean, you will be missed.
When I come to the end of the road and the sun has set for me, I want no rites in a gloom filled room, Why cry for a soul set free.
For this is a journey that we must take, And each must go alone.
It's all a part of the Master's plan, A step on the road home
