Janet Marie Swanson (McGuire)

Janet passed away peacefully on Monday, Nov. 9, 2015, in her home in Missoula surrounded by her family. She was born on June 22, 1930, in Anaconda to James and Evangeline McGuire. She was the youngest of four children, preceded in death by her brothers, James (Booster), John (Jack) and Gene. She married Ronald L. Swanson of Anaconda on June 12, 1951. Following a four year hitch with the Navy, they moved to Missoula for a year, then on to Lewistown in 1955, where they spent nearly 50 years and raised six children, Ronald M. (Mike), Nancy, Douglas (Duke), Kenny, Kevin and Robert (Bobby).

Janet is remembered as a loving mother and devoted wife with a "Big Sky Country" personality. She was a cheerleader at both Anaconda Central and the University of Montana. Janet was known for her unique sense of humor and for her dance skills – particularly in the "Jitterbug." She greatly mourned the loss of her two oldest sons, Mike and Doug, who were taken from her far too soon. She dearly loved and cherished all her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Janet enjoyed playing golf, cards, and socializing with her wide circle of friends.

Janet is survived by her loving husband Ronald; her daughter Nancy (Skye, Connor and Hannah), Kenny (Leigh and Jonathan), Kevin (Katy, K.J. and Dougie) and Bobby (Tiffani, Seth and Jenna), as well as Doug's children, Ashleigh and Landon. She adored her granddaughter Misty (Rick, Trent and Keilee) and a wealth of nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Church, 1400 Gerald Ave. in Missoula on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 11 a.m. Funeral luncheon to follow in the church reception hall. Internment at the Cavalry cemetery in Lewistown will take place at a later date – where she will be reunited with her beloved sons, Michael and Douglas. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously requests that donations be made in her name at the Montana Food Bank.
