James E. McConnell died Thursday, March 20, 2014, at the Village Health Care Center after a short bout of cancer. He was born Nov. 6, 1946, in Lords Valley, Pa., to Helen Hazen McConnell and Hugh McConnell.
Jim graduated from University of Scranton with a degree in physics. In California, he was an electrical engineer and then started his own business in Hamilton. He later moved to Lincoln. Jim worked on many classified contracts for the Navy.
Jim married Judy Clark in Lincoln in 1985. He retired from MSE in Butte in 2011. Hunting, fishing and camping were his passions. Jim volunteered for the fire department and as an EMT. He was also a lifelong member of the NRA.
Jim is survived by his wife, Judy; stepchildren Jason (Jenn) and Cori (Trent); grandchildren Courtney, Sam, Tim, Zurie and Todd; aunts Lorraine Hazen, Dorothy Davis (J.C.) and Patti Jones; and numerous cousins.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, March 24, at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Lincoln with a potluck reception to follow at the Lincoln Community Hall. Friends may pay their respects during a viewing time prior to the Mass from 10 to 11 a.m. Burial will follow at the Carlton Cemetery in Florence.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorials be made to the Lincoln Ambulance and Fire Department, P.O. Box 1071, Lincoln, MT 59639. Arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home. Condolences for the family may be left at missoulafuneralhomes.com.
