James R. "Jim" Flanders passed away in the loving arms of his wife and two daughters on Monday, Feb. 29, 2016, at his home in Missoula.
Jim was born on May 17, 1941, in Collis, Minnesota, to Mary (Tamlyn) Flanders and Robert Flanders. The family later moved to Woonsocket, South Dakota, where Jim attended grade school and high school.
He moved to Glendive in 1966. There he met Janet while attending Dawson Junior College. Jim married Janet, the love of his life, on March 18, 1967.
Jim moved to Missoula and graduated from the University of Montana Business School in 1973.
Jim owned and operated Farviews Insurance on South Avenue until 2007.
He was very mechanically inclined. It seemed as though he could fix almost anything. His interests over the years included; travel, cameras, clocks, model trains, World War II and Civil War history. He especially loved driving and working on his beloved 1984 Holiday Rambler motorhome. Jim and Janet are members of the Good Sam's Camping Group – The Mixed Nuts. He also enjoyed his Saturday night dinner group with friends.
Jim is survived by his wife of 48 years, Janet (Strane) Flanders; his two daughters, Rebecca (Scott) Marsh and Rachel (Colin) Eve of Denver, Colorado; his two sisters, Shirley (Paul) Ducker of New York and Joyce (Kyle) Wills of Tennessee; and many nieces and nephews.
The memorial service will be held Wednesday, March 9, at 2 p.m. at Garden City Funeral Home located at 1705 W. Broadway in Missoula. Refreshments will follow the service.

We will miss our husband, father and friend, but he is now in a better place in the hands of God.
