Obituary for James "Jimmy" Eggers

James "Jimmy" Eggers passed away peacefully Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2015.

Jimmy was born Feb. 5, 1924, in Comstock, Nebraska, to Henry and Gussie Eggers. Shortly after, moving to Hamilton.

Jimmy was drafted out of high school to the 29th Infantry Division, where he landed on the beaches of Normandy and climbed the cliffs of Dover. He was wounded several times, resulting in five Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star Medal of Valor.

Upon returning home from the war, Jimmy married Melba May Jensen on Oct. 4, 1946. They had three children. Jimmy had a long career in the grocery store business as a store owner and a produce manager for 40-plus years. Going on to retire and enjoy camping and fishing with his grandchildren. In his later years, he very much enjoyed dancing on Sundays and coffee with "The Guys" at Rosaurs on Tuesdays.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his wife, Melba; son, Dennis; six siblings; and three grandchildren. He is remembered by his brother, Donald; daughters, Dolores (Ray Hertz) and LaVonne Howell; his grandchildren, Ron, Teri, Jason, Travis and Jennifer; with multiple great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, in-laws and outlaws. Along with many close friends.

Memorial service with full military honors will be Monday, March 2, at 2 p.m. at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery, 1911 Tower St., with a celebration of life to follow at the Orchard Homes Community Center, 2537 Third St. W. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to American Cancer Society.
