James Willie Dawkins, known as Jim or Bill, 72, of Missoula, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016.
He was born Nov. 15, 1943, in Swainsboro, Georgia, to Willie and Ouida Dawkins.
He married Rosie Reynolds in 1961. They had two kids, Bill and Julie. They later divorced.
He joined the Navy in 1961 served four years. After his honorable discharge the family moved to Hamilton from Tucson. Regretfully they had to leave Jim's horse Charlie behind.
He was a sergeant in the Montana Army National Guard; a cowboy at heart, he loved to hunt and fish. He was a great dancer with no shortage of partners.
He was employed as Inventory Control for Champion of Bonner.
Jim spent many hours with his other family, the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 32 swapping stories with buddies. Jim was loved and will be missed by all.
He was a great dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, friend and brother.
He is survived by his son Bill Dawkins; daughter Julie Thompson; grandkids, Michael, Jamie and Chrissy; great-grandkids, Tennley, Tresston, Logan, Liam and baby Lilly; sister Becky Simpson and brother George Hollingsworth.
A memorial service will be held at the Eagles Lodge No. 32 in Missoula Tuesday, March 22 at 2 p.m. Interment will be held at the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery with full military honors at a later date.
