MISSOULAâ,**– Jacqueline Frances (Jacobson) Scoville, 80, died Friday, June 21, 2013, after a fearless battle with cancer.
A lifelong Missoula resident, she was born Sept. 15, 1932, the eldest child of Clifford "Soup" and Viola Hernan Jacobson. A 1950 graduate of Missoula County (now Hellgate) High School, Jackie graduated from the St. Patrick School of Nursing in 1953 – the same school that her mother attended 22 years prior. After graduation, Jackie jumped right into her life's work of caring for others. She was employed in the surgery department of St. Patrick Hospital before working as an registered nurse for Drs. Robert Curry, Melvin Johnson and A.P. Turner. The last 20 years of her nursing career were spent as a registered nurse and nurse practitioner at the Student Health Service on the University of Montana campus. Jackie truly loved caring for her patients at the university, and always held a special place in her heart for her health service colleagues. Jackie wed Jim Scoville on Dec. 29, 1956, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Missoula, launching a joyful marriage that would last nearly 57 years. Daughter Jamie was born in 1962 and son Jimmy followed in 1965. A kind and loving wife, mother and grandmother, she also cherished her extended family in Norway. Jackie was fondly remembered by several generations of former UM students long after her retirement in 1992. During their retirement years, Jim and Jackie took many special trips and cruises, feeling that it was important to travel with friends and family while they were able. Jackie devoted much of this special time to her granddaughter Regan, who helped her to stay young at heart. She is survived by her husband, James D. Scoville; daughter, Jamie Phillips and her husband Steven; son, James E. Scoville and his wife Laura; granddaughter, Regan deVictoria and her husband Zachary Cline; grandsons, Donovan and Devin Phillips; and great-grandson, Keoki Cline. She is also survived by her brother, Gerald Jacobson and his wife Joyce; nephew, Ron Jacobson and his wife Shelly; niece, Cathy Rankin and her husband Bill; nephew, Greg Jacobson and his wife Cheryl; and many grandnieces and grandnephews, as well as a host of relatives, neighbors, colleagues and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother and father; aunt, Louise; and uncles, Ed, Ty, Bill and Norm. To know Jackie was to love her, and her loss is deeply felt in the community. Many will remember her kind words, sparkling sense of humor, genuine compassion for those in her care, selfless zest for life and her commitment to personally putting a cookie into the hands of every person who visited Dixon Avenue – it was impossible to be hungry around Jackie. Visitation and funeral services will take place at St. Francis Xavier Church, 420 W. Pine St., on Thursday, June 27; visitation will be from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. and the funeral will begin at 10:30 a.m. Reception to follow.
