Obituary for Jacob A. Chaussee

Jacob A. Chaussee passed away peacefully on Feb. 28th surrounded by his loving family.

Jacob (Jake) was born March 16, 1929 in Missoula to George & Annie (Rey) Chaussee. He grew up in Missoula and spent much of his time hunting and fishing with his best friend and older brother, George J. Chaussee.

Jake attended Whittier and Missoula County High School. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1951 where he trained as an auto body repairman. In 1954 Jake has honorably discharged and returned to Missoula. He joined his father and older brother working at the Highlander Brewery. During this time he met the love of his life, Joan Zimmerman. They married on June 25, 1955. Together they made their home in Missoula and raised three daughters. When the Highlander Brewery closed in 1964, Jake resumed his trade of auto body repairman working at Warren Harris Buick and T & W Chevrolet. In 1976 he opened his own body & fender shop. This opportunity gave him more freedom to pursue his hunting and fishing adventures. Jake tirelessly shared his hunting and fishing stories with anyone who would listen. He also loved to hear other's hunting and fishing tales. Jake was a talented wildlife artists. He shared his unique artwork with family and friends.

Jake was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved brother George J. and his sister-in-law, Wilma, and nephews Louie and Gray Stemple, and John Chaussee.

Survivors include his wife, Joan, daughters, Cathie (Tom) Jacobson, Cindy (Mark) Ammondson, and Christie Chaussee, grandchildren Brad (Wendy) Jacobson, Todd (Andrea) Jacobson, Tracy Jacobson, Kinsey (Kevin) Corwin, Kelsey Ammondson, and Casey Chase, six great-granddaughters, 1 great-grandson and another great-grandson on the way. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews and many close friends and neighbors.

A celebration of his life will be held Friday, March 4th at 3:15pm, VA Cemetery, 1911 Tower St. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Western Montana or the American Diabetes Association.
