MISSOULA - John Robert "Jack" Sharkey Sr. died on Wednesday, May 22, 2013, at his home in Missoula. He was born in 1928 in Illinois.
Jack was exceptionally proud to have served his country in combat as a member of the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a natural salesman with successful careers in both the automobile and insurance industries. He spent much of his life raising seven children (including two sets of twins). He was particularly proud of pursuing and completing his college degree at Illinois State University at the age of 40. After retiring, Jack lived in Maine, Florida, and eventually Montana. Jack played a very good golf game and was fond of poker, NASCAR racing, and basketball.
Jack is survived by his wife, Jean; brother Philip (Kathy) Sharkey, and all seven of his children, Scott (Patricia), Kelly (Lynn), Patrick (Lisa), Paul (Betsy), Susan (Fred) Poulin, Mark, and John (Linda). Also surviving are grandchildren, Ross (Lyndsey) Sharkey and Stacey (Joe) Black, Sarah (Matt) Morgan and Jessica Sharkey (Bryan), Meryl, Jim, and Charlie Poulin, Kathryn Sharkey; and great-grandchildren, Madison Morgan and Kayden Peregrine. A family celebration of his life and accomplishments will be held in Missoula at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NAMI Missoula, P.O. Box 5413, Missoula, MT 59806, or a charity of the donor's choice.
