Obituary for Jack L Cather

– Jack Lloyd Cather, 86, of Lolo returned to our Heavenly Father on Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, surrounded by his family.

He was born in San Pedro, California, in December 1930 to Paul Cather and Reinetta Edgley. His family moved to the Nampa, Idaho, area where he was raised. He joined the Air National Guard of Idaho. He served from 1950-1953 with an honorable discharge, and then attended Brigham Young University. He met the love of his life, Alyce Claudette Wardle and they were later married in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple for time and eternity. Employment took them to Missoula, working for Consolidated Freightways. They were fortunate to raise their family in Stevensville.

Jack was passionate about the outdoors, his six children, 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Most of all, he was passionate about his yard and garden. Jack was proceeded in death by his son, Steven Dwayne Cather; his parents; one brother, Roger Cather; and two sisters Dee Barton and Barbara Baum. Jack is survived by his wife Alyce Claudette Cather; his children Shawn (Kristi) Cather of Lolo, Dana (Holly) Cather of Florence, Debbie (Matt) Maass of Salem, Oregon, Daniel (Jenni) Cather of Salem, Utah, and Sheila (Shari Kappel) Cather of Lolo.

Visitation will be held Friday, Feb. 3, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at Garden City Funeral Home, 1705 W. Broadway, Missoula.


Funeral services will be Saturday, Feb. 4, at 11:00 a.m. at the Lolo LDS Chapel, 6501 Mormon Creek Road, Lolo, with visitation starting at 10 a.m.

Interment will follow at the Victor Cemetery. Condolences can be left for the family at gardencityfh.com.
