Ivan Nelson

Ivan Nelson, 87, of Missoula passed away Saturday, February 1, 2025 at The Springs at Missoula. A graveside service with Military Honors will be held at a later date in the Western Montana State Veterans Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at gardencityfh.com.

Ivan Thees Nelson, son of Ivan and Clara (Maiden Name) Nelson, was born February 14, 1937 in Sidney, Nebraska. The family moved to Chinook, Montana, where Ivan graduated from Chinook High School in 1955. He continued his education at the University of Montana obtaining a bachelor’s degree in business. Ivan met the love of his life, Shirley Vandeberg, and the couple was united in marriage in Havre, Montana in 1957; three children were born to this union.

Ivan worked as a financial advisor for most of this working career and enjoyed helping his clients prepare for their futures. He later owned the business with his partners before his retirement. Ivan was an avid golfer who took any chance he had to play a round with his friends. He cherished the time he was able to spend with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ivan was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend who will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Ivan (Dianne) Nelson; Eric (Julie) Nelson; Lynn (Frank) Ripley; four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; sister, Katherine Nelson; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Ivan was preceded in death by his parents, Ivan and Clara Nelson; wife, Shirley Nelson; and brother, Mark Nelson.
