Irene Elizabeth (Jones) LaFollette, age 87, of Missoula, Montana, passed away Tuesday, June 3, at 3:56 p.m.
Irene was born in McKenzie County, North Dakota, on June 20, 1926, to Frank W. Jones and Lillie Clara (Sundeen) Jones. She was the fourth of eight children.
After completing high school in 1943, Irene took nurse's training in Minot, North Dakota, and received her degree in 1947. While working as a nurse in Columbus, Ohio, she met her future husband, David LaFollette. She and David were married on June 2, 1959 in Columbus. To this union were born two daughters.
In the course of their married life, the LaFollettes went on to live in North Dakota and Montana. Irene worked as a nurse until her retirement in 1988.
Survivors include her husband David, of Missoula; two daughters: Amy LaFollette of Shoals, Indiana, and Aline Irving of Albuquerque, New Mexico; two brothers: David Jones of Keene, North Dakota, and Ralph Jones of Portland, Oregon; and two sisters: Alice Gale of Columbus, Indiana; and Lavonne Hartel of Williston, North Dakota. She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Vernon and Donald Jones; and one sister, Edith McIntyre.
Viewing will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Monday, June 9, 2014 from 12 noon to 2 p.m. with a funeral to follow at 2 p.m. Condolences can be left for the family at www.missoulafuneralhomes.com.
