Ione L. Briedlander, 94, of Missoula, passed away peacefully in her sleep at the Village Healthcare Center on Saturday, April 25, 2015.
Ione and her identical twin sister, Irene, were born Aug. 30, 1920, on a farm in McIntosh County, North Dakota, to Christian and Mary (Marie Schwind) Vossler, whose agrarian German parents had emigrated from the Western Steppe of Russia/Ukraine to America. Ione and Irene also had an older sister, Laura.
Ione attended a small farm school, completed high school in 1941, and trained and worked as a teletype operator in California. In 1953, she married C. J. Briedlander, a Merchant Marine; they lived in California, North Dakota and Florida, where he passed away in 1985. In 1989, Ione moved to Missoula to be near her only daughter, Christine.
A kind and humble person, devoted to her family and friends, Ione enjoyed sailing with friends in Florida, visiting with family and friends, caring for her grandchildren, reading, hiking, quilting and volunteering at Atonement Lutheran Church, and volunteering (sanding carved ponies) at A Carousel for Missoula.
Ione was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Laura Berreth and husband Edwin; and her twin sister, Irene Raile and husband Elmer.
Surviving Ione are her daughter, Christine (Briedlander) Kilzer (Paul Kilzer) of Missoula; and grandchildren, Ann Kilzer of Austin, Texas, and Steven Kilzer of San Francisco.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 1, at Atonement Lutheran Church, 2205 34th St.
The family would like to thank the Village Senior Residence for their kind and supportive care.
Memorials may be sent to Atonement Lutheran Church, A Carousel for Missoula or a charity of choice.
