Ila "Ikie" Larson was born on May 29, 1928, in the center of her world, Richey. Her parents were Peter Carlson and Rosa "Sebastian" Carlson. She enjoyed telling everyone stories about her parent's rooming house and of growing up "at the river," or shack, in the era of the Depression with her three sisters and one brother.
After graduation from high school in 1947, Ikie had several jobs before moving to Spokane, Washington. While in Spokane, Ikie became a spy. She joined a group of men and women who traveled the lower 48 for J.C. Penny, busting employee shoplifters.
In 1951 Ikie married Jasper Larson and became a farm wife. The little house on the prairie became very lively when Randall, Kathy, Joseph, Ronald and Cynthia were born.
In 1964 our family moved to Belgrade and Ikie (Mom) became a logger's wife. In 1966 we moved to a new home on Kennedy Street where she never missed a day of admiring God's handiwork, the Bridger Mountains, out her front window.
Mom had an immense love of Jesus, and showed it by her love, faithful prayers, generosity, and especially her hospitality. Mom placed an enormous unconditional love for all she came in contact with. Rarely was a time in her home when we did not share a meal, a bed, or a kind heart with whom one could share anything.
Ikie passed away Tuesday, Aug. 19, 2014, at the home of her son near Arlee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jasper; son Ronald; grandson Eric; sister Marie; brother Carl, and many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and her many dear friends.
She is missed by her children, Randall (Polly), Kathy (Doug), Joseph (Teresa), Cynthia (Mark); 14 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Janis; brother-in-law Guido and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Ikie's wonderful life will be held at the Christian Missionary Alliance Church in Belgrade on Sept. 5 at 1:30 p.m.
Burial will be at the Lambert Cemetery on Sept. 3 at 3 p.m. With a time of Remembrance at the home of her sister Ann in Sidney following
