Howard Carl Johnson, 83, of Bonner, passed away of natural causes Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, at the At Home Assisted Living in East Missoula. He was born Nov. 26, 1929, in Missoula to Carl and Ruby Johnson. He lived in the Missoula area for the majority of his life. Growing up, he attended Bonner Elementary and later Missoula County High School.
Howard had a true passion for baseball beginning from his childhood playing for the Bonner Lumberjacks and the Bonner Timberjacks. As he got older, he coached Babe Ruth Little League, became one of the first coaches for All-Star Little League for the Bonner area and eventually a manager for the All-Star Mount Jumbo League. His passion for baseball stayed with him throughout his life as he was always a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs.
On Nov. 24, 1955, he married the love of his life, Irene Nagle, in Missoula. The couple resided in Bonner the majority of their life, where he worked for City Electric. All who knew Howard distinguished him as "the" electrician.
Over the years, Howard played a major role in numerous community organizations including the Moose Bowling League and Hellgate Lions Club, of which he had been a proud member for more than 50 years. He loved spending time with his family, fishing and playing golf, even achieving two a hole-in-ones at Larchmont Golf Course and the University of Montana Golf Course.
A loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, he always found a way to put a smile on your face. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene; parents, Carl and Ruby; and infant, brothers Edward and Robert. Survivors include his children and their families, Susan (Don) Harding, Sandy (Dave) Dickman, Joe (Minta) Johnson and Leo (Dana) Johnson; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and countless nieces and nephews.
