Our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, Helen Ruth Wills Urquhart passed away in the comfort of her home surrounded by her family Thursday, August 20, 2015.
Born July 31, 1918 to Charles Archibald Wills and Margaret Mae Shoemaker Wills in Butte, MT, Helen was the 3rd of 5 children.
Helen and her family moved to Missoula when she was 3 where her father worked as a typesetter for the Missoulian. As a youth her days were filled with ice skating, roller skating, dancing and caring for children. Helen had a tremendous love for her family and was very close to her brothers and sisters.
As a young girl, Helen recalled watching Indians pick bitterroots on the south side of Missoula. One of her fondest memories was taking a ride in a bi-plane for $1 at Johnson-Bell field on her 17th birthday.
Helen met the love of her life, Pat, in front of the Palace Candy Shop next to the Wilma building when she was 17. They were married in 1940 and enjoyed a long, loving marriage until Pat's death in 2005.
Helen had a love for the mountains, gardening, animals and, most of all, her family. Always a hostess, she was a woman of integrity and love.
Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers and sisters, and her husband. She is survived by her three children Gary (Janice) Urquhart, Rick (Cindy) Urquhart, and Jana (Larry) Lewis; 5 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Tuesday, August 25, 10:00am at the LDS church in Frenchtown, MT. A graveside ceremony at Sunset Memorial Gardens and reception will follow. Contributions may be made to Partners in Home Care Hospice.
Sunset Memorial Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.missoulafuneralhomes.com
