– Hazel Lucille Johnson, 88, of Missoula and Helena, passed away on Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, following a brief illness.
She was born on June 25, 1928, to Herman and Leona Johnson in Fairfield. She was raised on the family homestead, and attended schools in Fairfield, graduating from Fairfield High School. She went on to complete her education degree at the College of Great Falls.
Education was important to Hazel, she spent 42 years teaching in public schools in a number of places including Power, Conrad, Great Falls and Helena. She was a proud member of the Montana Educator’s Association, ADK (an education sorority) and later, the Helena Retired Teachers Association. She was very active in AARP in Helena and held the office of secretary for a number of years.
After retirement she joined the Broadwater Club in Helena and enjoyed time in the pool and lunches with friends that always followed.
In Missoula, Hazel enjoyed time with family, especially her great nephew, Tamirat, and making new friends at the Missoula Manor.
She is preceded in death by her mother and father and her sister, Anita Nelson.
She is survived by John and Angie (Palin) Nelson, Tamirat Nelson and Deb (Nelson) and Mike Rosbarsky and numerous relatives and friends.
Services will be held Friday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. at Garden City Funeral Home with Pastor Dan Dixon officiating. Interment will follow this summer at St. Paul’s in Fairfield. Condolences can be left for the family at gardencityfh.com.
