Obituary for Hazel V. Harlan

Missoula-Hazel V. Harlan, 89, died on January 13, 2014, of congestive heart failure, at Beehive Homes of Missoula.
She was born March 21, 1924 in Miles City, MT to Perry C. Bailey and Winifred "Winnie" M. Bailey (O'Brien). Hazel's family moved to Missoula in 1937. She attended Willard School and graduated from Missoula County High School in 1944. On October 21, 1944 she married Russell "Russ" Harlan. They lived on the family farm on Miller Creek Road and had four children, two daughters and two sons.
Mom was an excellent seamstress making beautiful clothing for herself and her young daughters. She made Russ a tailored blazer and he wore it often when they had Saturday evening dates. She was a dedicated homemaker, canning and freezing produce from a very large garden. In later years, she spent many hours reading "a good book".
Hazel was preceded in death by her brother Dean Bailey on May 1, 1945; father Perry on September 18, 1949; her son Michael "Mike" on June 15, 1991; mother Winnie on February 5, 1993; husband Russ on February 25, 1998; sister Carol Turi on May 14, 2010.
She is survived by her brother Darrel of Mollala, OR; her daughter Judith "Judy" O'Brien and her two sons Bryan Ojala (Katie and their son Henry), Eric Ojala (Maureen and their daughter Rori); Son Douglas "Doug" (Patti) Harlan and Doug's daughter Shana Harlan; daughter Sandra "Sandy" Johnson (Bob and their sons, Chris Johnson and Shawn Johnson (Emilee and their children Seeley and Graydon).
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Garden City Funeral Home at 2pm with Dan Dixson, Hospice Chaplain officiating. There will be a reception following the service in the funeral home's community room.
The family suggests memorials be made to Animeals (Mom loved cats!) in lieu of flowers. Arrangements are under the direction of Garden City Funeral Home and Crematory. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.missoulafuneralhomes.com
