Harrison Rex Maughan was born kicking, screaming and mad March 12, 1998, after 72 hours of labor. He passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015.
He was a beautiful boy who constantly amazed everyone around him. He grew into an extremely gifted mathematician and was taking advanced classes at the University of Montana. He was an accomplished musician, playing the baritone saxophone as a member of the Hellgate Jazz Band, Pep Band and Wind Ensemble. Harrison also performed with his beloved brass band, The Innocent Bystanders.
Harrison wasn't a fan of social conventions; however, he was passionate about math, music and his friends. Harrison hated small talk and small-mindedness. Yet, he provided a listening ear to friends in need. Harrison was abrasively, brutally honest. He was fiercely loyal, exacting, brave and kind. Harrison was simply, Harrison.
Harrison is survived by his parents, David and Amanda; his little brother, Joshua; his maternal grandparents, Phillip and Charleen Crenshaw; and scores of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
We are left with a myriad of unanswered questions. We are left heartbroken. We are left.
A celebration of Harrison's life will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at Garden City Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers (Harrison thought cut flowers were a waste of natural resources), a site has been set up to help the Maughan family offset expenses at gofundme.com/harrisonmaughan. Donations also can be made to the Harrison Maughan Memorial Fund at Missoula Federal Credit Union, Account Number 286332.
