Harold Joseph "Joe" Hanson, 87, of Alberton, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2024, in Missoula, MT, of natural causes.
He was born on March 5, 1936, in Chautauqua, New York, to Harold Hanson and Allison Clark.
He graduated from Mayville Central High School and Alfred Tech College. He was later married four times, had six children, sixteen grandchildren, and seventeen great-grandchildren.
Joe was preceded in death by three brothers, one son, four grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
He loved Alberton, Montana, where he was a justice of the peace, mayor, and town council member many times.
Joe was a known helper to all, fixing cars, plumbing, electrical, and almost anything you needed help with. He installed school sound systems in forty-eight states, including Alberton school. He owned and ran the town junkyard, of which he was very fond of. He was also instrumental in running the sidetrack café.
He frequently listened and donated to PBS, in which he was featured and celebrated multiple times. He had a very compassionate heart and cared about people a great deal. He also had a great love of horses and dogs and was an avid reader.
He is survived by his brother, Donald Hanson in Florida, Charlie Hanson in South Dakota, Fred and Brad Hanson in Montana, two daughters, JoAnn and Texie Hanson in Montana, and his dog River.
Joe was a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is loved by many, including friends and family, and he will be greatly missed.
