Harley James Axe, 85, of Missoula, passed away Thursday, May 5, 2016, at his home.
Harley was born Jan. 29, 1929, in Lincoln, Nebraska, to Madge Douthitt and Edmond Axe. He graduated from Natrona County High School in 1948. Harley attended Casper College before earning a bachelor's degree from the University of Denver. He lived in Wyoming, Hawaii and California before settling in Montana.
Harley was a world traveler, successful businessman, master scuba diver and gifted storyteller. If you are from Missoula, you probably know him as the kind, white-haired, gentleman riding along the Kim Williams Nature Trail with his white dog, Buffy. Harley lived life to the absolute fullest and has inspired those in his life to do the same.
Preceding him in death were his father, Edmond Axe; mother, Madge Douthitt; and sons, James Axe and Tommy Axe. He is survived by his daughters, Vicky Thuesen, Susan O'Leary and Theresa Axe. Cherishing his memory is daughter-in-law, Katherine Axe; numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends too numerous to count but not forgotten.
A private service was held for his family.
