Gregory Dean Smith
MISSOULA - Gregory Dean Smith was taken by angels to rest with his Lord and Savior on Friday, November. 28, 2008.
Greg was born in Missoula on April 12, 1968. After a courageous fight at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, he passed away from injuries sustained in an accident.
Greg is survived and deeply missed by his wife Renee Smith, the love of his life and best friend; his loving mother Alvina Smith; two brothers, Brad Smith and family of Superior, and Marc Smith of Missoula; two very special step-children, Lyndsie “his sunshine” and Tom Williams, both of Missoula; three daughters, Jennie, Danielle and Jessica; and one granddaughter, Kennadi; along with many relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Dean Smith; and his grandparents.
A natural born athlete, Greg was a several time Montana state “Golden Gloves” boxing champion. He also boxed in the 1994 World Olympic trials.
Greg loved extreme working conditions, including as a member of the Hot Shot fire crew as a lead sawyer for the Forest Service. He spent time in Alaska drilling for Gold and worked for Champion lumber mill. Greg worked at Quality Supply at the time of his death.
An avid outdoorsman, Greg loved the outdoors and was a trophy hunter.
He was very active in his community and started many programs to help those in need.
A true Christian brother, Greg was active in his faith at Missoula Valley Church. He started a “Celebrate Recovery” program that allowed him the privilege of bringing many people to the Lord. Greg baptized many people and lived by example.
A natural born leader, Greg had a way of making everyone around him feel special and important .
He will be extremely missed and never forgotten.
A celebration of Greg’s life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, December. 14, at Missoula Valley Church, 1549 S. Higgins Ave. An open reception will follow the services.
Memorials in Greg’s name may be made to U.S. Bank’s memorial fund.
