Grace Yovetich

October 19, 1927 — December 10, 2024

Grace Yovetich, 97, peacefully passed away December 10, 2024 after a joyful, abundant life

She was born October 19,1927, one of William and Julia Barker’s nine children. Grace lived her life in her beloved Big Sky Country, mostly in Missoula in the house where she and Philip Yovetich raised their six children.

Fiercely independent and firm in her convictions, Grace was thoughtful, compassionate, smart, witty, and sometimes accidentally hilarious. She was an example of selflessness, treating others with dignity and civility. We could always look to her as our moral compass to know what’s right.

Gracie never spoke an unkind word. However, she gleefully read aloud the phrases in the Cards against Humanity game that no proper 90-something Grandmother would dare say.

She was a skilled seamstress, sewing dresses and pants, and six pairs of pajamas on behalf of Mrs. Claus every Christmas. She crafted dozens of Sock Monkeys, most of which were gifted to grandchildren, neighbor kids, friends, and family.

Grace followed every sport and activity her kids participated in. She was also Grizzly football’s biggest fan. She absolutely insists that her family hang on to her season tickets; “Those are good seats. Philbie got them when the new stadium first opened. 1986.”

Her tenderness and magic touch awarded her with the esteemed title of The Baby Whisperer.

Grace and Phil raised six children: Jeannie (Kevin Burham), Natalie Yovetich, Sandy (Greg Johnson), Mike (Miriam Barkouki), Ellie (Mark McQuirk), and John (Linda Bright). Eleven Grandchildren plus one Great-Grandchild were her pride and joy. Grace is also survived by her sister, June Webb, along with several nieces and nephews.

We have lost count of all her other unofficial kids and grandchildren that she whispered sweet dreams to.

On behalf of her Family, Thank You for every friendship, homemade supper, good company, shoveled driveway, walk around the block, and your time spent with our amazing Gracie.

She loved you.

Miss Grace did not want a big fuss made over her, but there will be a party. She suggested when the weather is nice and sunny, of course.

Grace is preceded in death by her husband, Phil (1920-2004). In her honor, be kind and gracious. Play outside. Plant a garden. Become an avid birdwatcher. Drink a glass of wine daily and eat all the chocolates. Laugh breathlessly. Smile with your whole heart.

We are going to miss her very much.
