Gordon Dale Spring, a longtime Missoula resident, died Sunday, July 10, 2016. He was born in Butte on Dec. 23, 1933, the son of Lillian and Leo Spring.
At 19 years of age, Gordon left Montana to join the United States Air Force. He was stationed in England for four years. When he returned to the United States after completing his tour, he brought with him his British bride, Patsy. Patsy and Gordon celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year.
After settling once again in Butte, Gordon temporarily worked for the Montana Employment Office but soon joined Moore Business Forms and in June 1963 was transferred to Missoula. When an opportunity arose, Gordon bought into Gateway Printing. Over the years, the company grew to employee 24 people. He retired in 2001.
After he retired from Gateway Printing, he spent his time with his loving wife and his ever-growing family, as well as being a productive and caring member of his community.
While spending several vacations in the California desert, Gordon and Patsy decided to purchase a home there where they enjoyed golf, new friends and the sunshine.
Gordon has always been involved in his community. In Missoula he was active in the Chamber of Commerce, Rotary Club, Elks, Toastmasters and Dale Carnegie. In California he served seven years on the Homeowners Association board of directors and was a member of the Citizens on Patrol in Cathedral City.
Gordon's proudest accomplishments were his three children, Martin of Plains, Judith of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho, and David of Missoula. These children brought to the family his three loving grandchildren and four great-grandchildren in addition to his son-in-law Paul and daughter-in-law Tammy. He is also survived by his sister, Betty Wood of McMinnville, Oregon, and her three sons; and other nieces and nephews.
Gordon will be forever missed by his family and his friends in England, Montana and California.
His life is being celebrated with all the people his life has touched over his blessed years. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 16, at Garden City Funeral Home, West Broadway and Mullan Road. Reception to follow.
If you wish to honor Gordon, in lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate contributions to Alzheimer research, www.alz.org.
Arrangements are under the care of Garden City Funeral Home.
