Gloria R. Nash, our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and dear friend, passed away peacefully Saturday, June 13, 2015, surrounded by her family.
Born in Polson on Sept. 15 1931, Gloria was the older of Rex and Ellen Hawn's two daughters. When Gloria was young the family moved to Great Falls, where she graduated from Great Falls High in 1949. After high school Gloria began working for GMAC, where she met her future husband, Mike. The two eventually settled in Missoula, raising two boys – Greg and Gary – while enjoying 61 years of marital bliss.
In addition to her role as homemaker, Gloria and her late husband Mike operated Nash Grocer on Higgins Avenue and the Chimney Corner Laundromat near the University of Montana. Prior to retirement, Gloria also worked as a bookkeeper for Dr. Whitsel, DDS, and for the Government Employee's Credit Union.
Gloria's greatest joy was her family. When Greg and Gary were young, the family often gathered at their cabin near Crown Mountain. After retirement, she enjoyed golfing with Mike and spending quality time with her grandchildren and later, her great-grandchildren.
Gloria was an active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church for many years. She organized youth groups, summer camps and the church choir. Her faith and service to the Lord brought her great joy.
Gloria also enjoyed staying in touch with friends, co-workers and family, getting together for lunch or dinner – and was never one to turn down dessert!
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Mike (who passed away one year earlier on the very same day). She is survived by her sister, Joy Tyler of Great Falls; her sons, Greg of Helena and Gary (Candy) of Lolo; three grandchildren, Heather (Abraham) Hawkins of Billings, Lacey (Kyle) of Missoula and Michael (Saryn) of Sacramento, California; and two great-grandchildren whom she treasured, Kenneth and Piper Hawkins. She also is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends and her godson, Mike Bellusci.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 25, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 830 South Ave. W., with Pastor Molly officiating, A reception will follow at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family, would request donations in Gloria's name be made to Hospice of Missoula or Immanuel Lutheran Church. The family would like to extend a very special thank-you to Janie and Suzie and all the staff at Hospice of Missoula; and Larry, Kay and Joy and staff of the Country View Senior Care.
