Obituary for Glenn Richard Schmidt

Glenn Richard Schmidt, 66, of Missoula and born in Laurel, MT passed away on May 23rd after a courageous battle with brain cancer.
He was born April 15, 1950 to parents Madge and Jacob Schmidt. Glenn was the oldest of three, brother of Marilyn and John Schmidt. Attending school in Laurel, Glenn was in track and field, played on the basketball team, debated on the high school Speech and Debate team, and worked for the student newspaper, The Laurel Leaves.
After Graduating High School in 1968, he moved to San Francisco to attend Broadcasting school, while also making time to attend major cultural events like the concert at Altamont Speedway. After some time being a hippy in San Francisco he moved back to Montana and began his broadcasting career.
Glenn moved to Missoula where he met his first wife and mother of his children, Nancy Greenfield. Together they raised two children, Jake and Sonja, who were his greatest accomplishment. Glenn and Nancy divorced and Glenn later remarried Peggy Moody who had two beautiful children of her own, Pat and Shannon. Glenn and Peggy eventually parted ways. Glenn took an active role in all of the children's lives whether it be teaching them to ski, being a coach on one of their teams, or going above and beyond to get a good laugh.
He had a strong love for the outdoors and loved mountain biking, hiking, skiing, riding horses, spending time at the lake and making a yearly visit up to Glacier National Park, which he often referred to as "God's Church". He loved playing guitar, performing in MCT productions, and attending as many Missoula events as he could fit in. One of his greatest loves was being a radio DJ, which allowed him to share his love for music, talk as much as he wanted, and even become Missoula Mayor for a day; dressed head-to-toe as a king and raising money for trout in McCormick Park pond.
Glenn was preceded in death by his parents and brother John. Survivors include son Jacob Schmidt, daughter Sonja Schmidt, sister Marilyn Lindell, nephew's Jared and Luke Lindell, niece Britanny Lindell and grand nephew Augustus.
Quick to crack a joke, lighten the mood and always looking to have good time, Glenn's life was filled with passion, kindness and an effortless ability to make people feel warm in their hearts. Glenn was lost too early but was an example of how to live life to the fullest. He will be dearly missed.
His celebration of Life will be held at Snowbowl Sunday June 5th at 1 PM. We encourage anyone he touched to attend.
