Obituary for Glenda Jean Sexton

Glenda Jean Sexton passed away in the early morning hours of July 21, 2014 at her home in Missoula from natural causes. She was 91 years of age. She was born September 17th, 1922 in Albert Lea, Minnesota, the daughter of Ralph and Marie Van Reenan, and graduated from Albert Lea, Minnesota high school in 1940.

Glenda moved west at a young age, first to Laramie, Wyoming, then to Oregon. She worked for the Eugene, Oregon AAA for 11 years and eventually visited most of the United States. On September 7, 1974 she married the love of her life, Ray Sexton, in Medford, Oregon. In 1978 they moved to Missoula and resided in the Upper Miller Creek area for the past 36 years. Ray was with Glenda at her death.

Glenda and Ray were familiar faces on many of the local and a few national golf courses. She participated in the University of Montana Golf Club activities. Glenda was a true lover of life and enjoyed being with friends and neighbors and eating good Italian food. She was particularly fond of the numerous birds, deer, foxes, and raccoons that inhabit the Terrace Drive area and in particular her cat Romeo. She had a wonderful sense of humor and enjoyed talking conservative politics. She touched many people on a deep and personal basis.

Glenda has a son Barry Vermilyea of Pine City, Minnesota and is survived by her son and his wife Jewel, two grandchildren, six great-grand children and one sister, Francis Peterson of Minneapolis. Glenda was a fighter for life until the very end. The family wishes to thank the Community Hospital and staff, Village Health Care, Partners in Home Care, the Missoula City Fire Department and the Missoula area ambulance services for the excellent care provided to her over the years. A life celebration will be announced at a future date.

Garden City Funeral Home is assisting the family. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at www.missoulafuneralhomes.com
