Gilberto Rodriguerz

MISSOULA – Gilberto Rodriguez was born March 20, 1931, in Floresville, Texas, to Miguel and Maria Rodriguez. He went to be with the Lord on Sunday, May 26, 2013. Gilberto moved with his family to the Bitterroot area to work in the sugar beet fields. Gilberto was the fourth oldest of 10 children.

Gilberto married Rosita Reed in 1956, but later divorced. Their five children include Felipa Rodriguez of Blairsville, Ga.; Jason Rodriguez of Auburn, Wash.; Stefano Rodriguez (deceased in 1993); and Lela Rodriguez and Joe and Julie Rodriguez of Lewiston, Idaho.

Gilberto worked on several railroads and was better known as Gil. He worked for Northern Pacific, Milwaukee, Burlington Northern and Montana Rail Link.

Gil is also survived by siblings, Robert and Shirley Rodriguez of Missoula, Roy and Sandy Rodriguez of Missoula, Frank Rodriguez of Missoula and Olga Rodriguez of Orlando, Fla.; and brother-in-law, Joe Malach of Kalispell. Gilberto also is survived by seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mike and Maria; son, Stefano "Stef" Rodriguez; brothers, Lilo Steven and Rodolfo; and sister, Elsie.

Rest in peace, Dad, uncle, brother, brother-in-law and friend.

A memorial in August will be announced at a later date. Garden City Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
