Gerard Balon, 68, of Missoula passed away on Tuesday, August 31. 2021, at home of Heart Disease.

He was born on July 21, 1953, in East Chicago IN, to Jean and Emil Edward Balon. As a young man he lived with his brothers and mother and received his education at St. John Cantius Catholic school. He graduated from Indiana University with an Associates of Arts – Nursing and later went to Loyola to achieve a Bachelor of Business Administration.

On January 28, 1989, he married Elizabeth Kluczewski in Chicago IL. The couple lived there until moving to Highland IN in 1993 where he continued to work for the Veteran’s Administration in Crown Point IN. He served in the US Army Reserve 801st Combat Support Hospital. He was honorably discharged holding the rank of Captain.

He was a member of the American Legion Post 0027 Missoula. He enjoyed finding odd jobs to be done around the house, walking his dogs with his wife, and especially enjoyed the freedom of retirement.

A loving husband and father, he took great care of his family and was happy to assist anyone that asked him for help.

Survivors include his loving soulmate and wife, Ela and his son Joseph, both of Missoula; Brothers Norb (John), Ken, and Gene; Sister-in-Law Basia (Tony); Nephews Nick (Bee), Peter (Catherine), Timmy (Danielle), John (Kirstin), and Scott.

Visitations will be on Thursday, 5-6 at Garden City Funeral Home and Mass at St. Francis Xavier on Friday, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Steve Langtry.

He will be cremated then brought home.

Military Honors are to be announced sometime next year.
