Geraldine "Gerry" Mable Ashton, 98, of Missoula, a former Great Falls resident passed away on Sunday, April 17th, 2016 at Edgewood Vista Memory Care of natural causes.
Surviving family includes her son, Kenneth of Albuquerque, NM; grandson Hunter and wife Sara, great-grandson, London Thomas Ashton and great-granddaughter Avery Corine Ashton of Portland, OR.
Gerry had been receiving steady and loving care from friend and caregiver, Randy Gravatt for a number of years. Gerry had been residing at Edgewood Vista Memory Care since February of 2015. Hospice of Missoula had been supplementing care within recent weeks.
Born in Great Falls, Montana, on May 24th, 2017. Her parents were Edward and Louise Geiger of Missouri. Gerry's first year of life was lived on her family homestead outside of town, after which her parents purchased a home within the town of Great Falls. She excelled through the Great Falls school system, graduating from Great Falls High School, and continuing her education, graduating from Montana State University in 1939. In 1940, Gerry married her long time love, Thomas L. Ashton who was also an MSU graduate. They remained married until his death, in 2008. They celebrated their 67th wedding anniversary in November of 2007.
Throughout her life, she had a passion for sewing. She was an award winning and accomplished seamstress.
In 1952, living in Idaho Falls, Idaho, Tom and Gerry became parents to a son, Kenneth Dale Ashton, who added an important dimension to the family.
Over the years, the family lived in Idaho Falls, Idaho; Denver, Colorado; Albuquerque, New Mexico and Wenatchee, Washington before finding their way back to Montana in 1993.
Missoula was a great spot that allowed them to be close to their Great Falls family. Both, Tom and Gerry loved this part of the Northwest.
A loving and wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Gerry will be greatly missed and continued to be loved and remembered.
Cremation has taken place. No services are planned, however friends will be welcomed at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial (1410 13th St S, Great Falls, MT 59405) on Wednesday, June 22nd, 2016 at 10am to say final goodbyes.
