Georgiana McNaughton passed away on August 3rd in her home with her daughters and beloved dog, Maggie. Georgiana will be lovingly remembered by children Lisa Bertelsen (Mark Bertelsen) and Leslie Dominick (Stuart Dominick): grandchildren, Brandon Bertelsen and Emma Dominick: and sister, Kathleen Snow.
Georgiana was born June 30th, 1942, in Lexington, Kentucky, to Charles and Katherine Snow. She came West for college, attended Montana State University in Bozeman, Montana, and graduated with a degree in elementary education in 1963.
She married Norm Haaland in the fall of 1963. Except for the two years on a ranch in Malta, they lived in Shepherd until the end of their marriage in 1988.
Georgiana moved to Missoula in 1988 to attend the University of Montana and received a master’s degree in counseling in 1992. She worked as a family counselor for St. Patrick Hospital’s Addiction Treatment Program as a family counselor and later in private practice where she retired in 2017.
Georgiana was a dabbler in all things—she embraced the richness and diversity of life experiences in the way she lived, worked, and played. She was a counselor, mother, grandmother, teacher, student, artist, writer, photographer, woodworker, homemaker, gardener, cowhand, shepherdess, explorer, collector of treasures, traveler, wonderer, friend.
She grew increasingly content and at peace in her life and this was important to her beyond all things. She became involved with Soft Landing Missoula and helped welcome refugee and immigrant families who arrived in Missoula.
Georgiana’s family will try to follow her legacy of appreciating beauty as well as her great demonstration of kindness, compassion, and generosity.
Memorial Donations in Georgiana’s name may be made to the Humane Society of Western Montana and Five Valleys Trust.
