Obituary for Georgenia "Sue" Buck (Drennan)

Georgenia "Sue" (Drennan) Buck, 70, passed away Thursday, Feb. 5, 2015, at Riverside Health Care Center. She was born July 24, 1944, in Oxnard, California, the oldest of four children born to Iva and George Drennan.

Sue is survived by her daughters, Crystal Buck of Missoula and Charity Buck of Billings; her sister, Shirley Sloan, and niece Juliet Sloan of Monmouth, Oregon; her brother, Ben Drennan of Salem, Oregon, and his children; and her brother, Larry Drennan of West Virginia. She was preceded in death by both parents.

Sue spent her early childhood a "tomboy" on Orange Ranch, where she enjoyed running, climbing trees and the local wildlife. A typical teen, she loved dance and music, especially the Everly Brothers' song, "All I Have to Do is Dream." In 1962 she graduated from Menlo Atherton High School and in 1968 she moved to Missoula to attend the University of Montana, where she studied wildlife biology.

Sue met and married Clinton Buck in 1969 and they moved to Great Falls in 1970. Sue held other positions while living in Great Falls, but retired from the city of Great Falls after 18 years of service as an accounting clerk. Although retired and not in the best of health, she was always industrious and worked for several years in partnership with others, advocating for Native American religious rights in Montana prisons. In 2013 she returned to Missoula to live with her daughter, Crystal.

Even more meaningful than what Sue did and where she did it, is who Sue was while she did it. Mom was kind, compassionate, curious, accepting, witty, strong-willed, intelligent, competitive, selfless, independent and giving. She loved all animals, domestic and wild, the mountains and trees – all the wild, natural beauty this life offers. Sue/Mom, will be greatly missed. The family will hold a private memorial service in the spring. Condolences and memories may be left for the family at missoulafuneralhomes.com.
