George Andrew Hart

b. June 28, 1951

Missoula

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Andrew Hart, 73, who departed this life Thursday, 28 November, 2024. George passed away peacefully in his home. He had a constant thirst for knowledge and desire to serve others as well as his family, often with an infectious laugh during family gatherings.

Born to George Anthony and Anita Loiselle Hart in Missoula Montana, June 28, 1951.

George was raised in downtown Missoula attending St. Francis Xavier and Loyola high school in 1969. He went on to attend Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington with a degree in criminal justice in 1975. George held numerous jobs and positions in the state and federal prison system across the U.S., retiring in 2004 as a case manager at the Federal Bureau of Prisons, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

After retirement, he settled back home in Missoula, and began a flower gardening business for a number of years, selling to regional farmers markets, driving the school bus, and being an active member of the community. He enjoyed reading, music, and movies, but most of all he enjoyed being with family.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Mary Anne Nash and brother-in-law, Michael Nash of Alexandria, Virginia.

He is survived by his siblings, Thresa Hutchinson, of Jacksonville, North Carolina, Annabelle Bowmen, of Missoula, Montana, and his brother Joseph Hart of Edmunds, Washington. He is also survived by his two sons and their families: Matthew Hart of Dallas, Texas; and Lt Col George M. Hart, wife Kareen and his two grandsons, Bennett and Ronan. He will also be mourned by his former spouse, Marcia Phillips and her family.

His remains have been cremated, per his wishes, and his family will hold a celebration of life ceremony in the summer of 2025.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to American Diabetes Association.

George Andrew Hart will be missed by many. His memory will live on in story, laughter and love shared by those whose lives he touched when time were good.

May he rest in peace.
